Making the move

The Tokyo offices of international firms are very much focused on commercial work. Accordingly, the demand for lawyers is almost exclusively for those who work in the following key practice areas,

		Capital Markets
		Banking
		Corporate
		Project Finance

We do howe veroccasionally get jobs for Disputes, IP and IT/Telco lawyers.

Firms will typically look to individuals qualified in England & Wales and the US (particularly in New York), although candidates from Australia and New Zealand are relatively popular too. Japanese language skills are essential for something like fifty percent of the practice roles we are instructed upon, but are almost always required for jobs in-house.
