CV Tips - Employment History

Employment History

Unlike your education details, your employment history should appear in reverse chronological order with your current/most recent position being listed first.

In this section include names of employers, dates (again, always include months and years), position held and details of the work you have undertaken.

If you have undertaken any studies while being employed, you should mention that, eg. “Corporate Associate (full-time while studying part-time).”.

Do not:

  • Leave out any period of employment for whatever reason. It is important to ensure that your time is accounted for.

  • Give reasons for leaving any of the jobs on your CV. This is something which is generally much better left explained in person at an interview.

  • Embellish your CV or be economical with the truth (i.e. overstating your experience, accomplishments or, if you chose to include it, current salary level).
