Do not underestimate the power of your CV - a good CV can get an average candidate through the door while one which is lacking may mean even the best candidate is overlooked!

At all times you must remember that your CV will "meet" your prospective employer before you do so it is essential that it creates the right impression! Your ultimate goal is to secure the position and your CV is the first step to achieving that goal.

In some cases the law firm, company or financial institution that you are applying to will receive hundreds or more applications from interested candidates. You must, therefore, make sure that your CV allows you to stand out from the rest and give the potential employer a good impression of you. Your CV must read easily and focus on issues relevant to the role at hand. A more general CV might sometimes be most appropriate for your recruiter but even this should be coherent and focus on relevant information.
