It is probably fair to say that most lawyers would like to earn more than they are currently being paid. However, one should always bear in mind that pay rises can, in certain circumstances, come along with some less than desirable side effects. The basic reason for this is that no-one, not even the most generous employer, wants to pay more to an employee than he or she thinks that employee is worth. Once an employer believes an employee is being paid more than they are worth, that employee is in a potentially perilous situation.
